Construction Site

Brian and I have alot of work to do on Blake's room before he gets here. The home we currently live in was built in the 1940's which means dungeon basements with washer/dryer hook-ups and plaster walls all throughout the house. Two years ago Brian installed a washer/dryer hook-up in what is currently Blake's room. This was extremely convenient for us at the time, but will be a challenge as we try to convert this room back into a bedroom. Anybody who knows anything about old homes knows that they were built with very limited closet space if any at all. This was because they didn't live in a generation of credit card debt. You only bought what you had money for and most people only had money for a couple of outfits and the bare neccessities. That would explain why they didn't waste thousands of dollars building storage space in their homes. Convenient for them, but not so convenient for us. This home had a closet added into the office space which we plan to make the next destination for our washer/dryer. We just don't like the idea of having the laundry in our basement. I can just picture Brian or I injuring ourselves falling down the stairs or our clothes being saturated in the numerous floods we have when it rains. It isn't very appealing for resale either. Try to convince any woman to buy your home when they have to walk down this to get to the laundry room. Each step only fits about half of my foot on it and you have to duck down low at the bottom of the steps to clear your head from hitting the ceiling. It is not a happy place down there, but it has been wonderful for extra storage.
Here is my to do list before Blake gets here:
* Build new closet in babies room
* Paint trim and walls
* Carpet babies room
* Relocate washer/dryer
* Paint walls in staircase
* New carpet in saircase
* Move Allyson into her big girl bed

So far Brian and I have taped off the room and started painting the trim. Brian has also been applying dry wall mud to all of the cracks in our plaster walls. When he tore out the old closet shelves alot of the plaster came with it, so this last week has been totally dedicated to dry walling and sanding. Our upstairs is a war zone right now. I can't wait to get to the painting. Here are the colors we chose for Blake's roomThe color is blue, not purple, I promise. It just looks like that after scanning it on our computer.
Enjoy this beautiful day today!
